Two people were killed and another person thrown into the lagoon with about three others injured in a Sunday afternoon accident that occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge.
The accident created serious traffic gridlock on the ever busy road as motorists were forced to spend hours before getting away from the scene of the accident.
The officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who arrived at the scene later removed the corpse of one of the victims of the accident.
A refuse truck and an Acura Legend car were involved in the accident that created serious confusion among the users of the popular bridge.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the two vehicles were heading towards the Lagos Island and were around Iyana-Oworo area of the state, when the Acura Legend car attempted to overtake the refuse truck.
The refuse truck reportedly lost control in the process and was heading for the lagoon when the driver battled to regain control of the wheel and in the process crushed the saloon car.
An unidentified person from the refuse truck was thrown into the lagoon while two people from the saloon car were reportedly crushed to death with others trapped under the truck for close to 45 minutes.
The two deceased occupants of the saloon car were alleged to be a couple, since they were reportedly wearing the same attire at the time of the accident.
