Former Eyimba safehands and Nigeria's first choice goalie Vincent Enyeama's agent has revealed how the goal tender missed out on a deal to London clubside Arsenal.
The player's agent Tony Martich, said the 2 million Euro fee demanded by his Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv was considered too high by Arsenal.
Media reports last week stated that the 2004 best African goalkeeper had impressed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who was the at the stadium commentating Nigeria's international friendly game against France for French TV station TF1.
Tony Martich, confirmed the report in a chat with Israeli press on Tuesday that both parties had agreed on personal terms for the player but could not finalise the deal due to the size of the fee demanded by Hapoel.
Wenger subsequently opted to instead extend the contract of current second choice keeper Lukas Fabianski.
"Vincent was very close to sealing a move to Arsenal, he had already agreed personal terms but Hapoel demanded a 2 million euros fee and Arsenal pulled out," Martich told the Israeli press.
"Israeli clubs need to understand that the Ligat Ha'Al doesn't mean much to the biggest clubs in the world."
Enyeama who is currently in camp with other super eagles members preparing for the next match in the World/African cup qualifier however said, he is not thinking about any move at present but only thinking about the assignment at hand which is to ensure Nigeria pick a ticket to the World cup by getting a favorable result in Tunisia.
"My focus right now is on this match because it is very important for us to get a good result against Tunisia. That is the only thing I am thinking of. Everything else will come after this game." Enyeama was part of the Eyimba team that won the African champions league in 2004 and 2005.
